The Sims and Metaphysics

Lets throw out the particularities of individual religions, and boil them down to their essence. There is a God who created us. He resides here but He is in his full form beyond some sort of metaphysical boundary we cannot pass, at least while alive. We have always assumed we are one layer away, there's us, there's God, that's it, a kingdom of man, and a kingdom of Heaven. What if that is not the case?
What if we are many layers away? What if our God, has a God of his own? That despite being all powerful to us, He is beholden to His own Creator? What if the relationship we have with our God is similar to the relationship He has with His? C
